Finally was able to get to listen to this.

An outstanding piece of music. Very moving with enough changes to keep it interesting.

Since I travel for a living this will get burned to one of my new travel cd's.

Great work.

this was really really awesome musically. just amazing.

the mix...
i thought it occuppied the higher frequencies a bit too much with the rain sample's and violin, but that's just a preference.

i thought the ride was a bit too loud at times, and the snare wasn't out enough (for me) were the drums compressed a little too much? Something made the mix get a little softer/louder every once in a while (3:35, 3:52) the high hats stood out a bit at times. that may be timing/drummer issues, but it just seemed odd.

very cool and interesting production on the intro and throughout though.

this was a really good listen, keep on progrockin in the free world

The classical guitar sounds just great. How was it recorded and what make is the instrument?

The make of guitar: Roland JV1010 Synthesizer. How it was recorded: I pressed "record", played Keyboard, pressed "stop". :D I totally agree, I think its a terrific sound. I didnt really alter it much, thats how the preset sounds, all the classical guitar patches are pretty good.

The drums were on one track. The outstanding drummer just sent me the drums on individual tracks. He did this recording before the guitars were even recorded: this tune started out more like Mannheim Steamroller and took a different route as we collab'ed on it. :)

Hey David - I already mentioned at the other place how much I like this tune. Just thought I'd tell you again at this place!

:)

Well, I'll be damned, you sonovagun.

Thanks kids,

this is the latest and last mix of this for now, I re-recorded some of the violins, added a few things and got the drums sounding better:

Sinding suite

WOW David it sounds great.

Now if you can get Dogman to lay down some vocals on it.............. :D :D

Great job.

Nice! really nice!
What about bass line? I am not at home rigth now and don't hear any bass on tiny little PC speakers.

Please come with some more stuff! :)

Dear lord that is impressive. I absolutely love it. I am normally a big fan of "bigger" drums(due to rock and punk influence) but I am totally in love the drum sound on this recording. Of course the violin work is absolutely awesome, and in short this is great!

hey how did you do that woosh sound at 00:09, 2:00 and through out the rest. just one question thing I wanted to know

That my friend is a VERY tricky effect, definitely 21st century, hi-tech advanced stuff. It took a LOT of computer power, planning, some REALLY expensive plug-ins, and I had some technical advice from some engineers at NASA on that.

It's a Cymbal.

:D

I had the same reaction to when I did it: "Wow". Jimi is playing a Cymbal roll, I merely spliced it off before it blossomed. I turned up the volume, panned a bit and thats all. :)

Hey sounds really cool alwasy wanted to learn how to do effects like that. Good luck on your work sounds really cool, mind I ask, can you give us any details on your recording chain?

Avlexc133 mic> M-audio firewire solo>computer

I use Sonar 3
Roland JV1010 synth
Pro53 softsynth
Badass serious violin

There are 14 violins on the fast part overdubbed, a sample of rain mixed with real rain outside my patio! Tis true, it was raining when I did this so I thought it would sound good in the music.

The rest is via internet collab, the fellers post their work or send it to me, I put it together and mix it. Twas a LOT of fun workin with these fellas, as you can hear they have the skilz to pay the bilz/ ;)

Dude, you crammed a sh!@#@pile of sound into 128k.....that's a damn good recording. Can't say I hear a huge difference in the second mix, over the first, as it's just impressive. Excellent playing, all around. :D
Love it.

stuff that like this makes me wonder, I mean it sounds so clear and to tight, so it makes me wonder, does expensive hardware really mean something? I mean does it really matter, look how clean and clear the sound is, and you did it with at most $1500 worth of equipment if that. Do you really need millions of dollars to invest in the latest ad converter? do you really need that expensive tube preamp by avalon? I mean is all of this really really necessary? Just something to think of and for people to start flaming!! hehe :D

Thanks, that is a really nice compliment.

Here is part of the equation that is missing:

These are 5 VERY serious players. I play on lots of CDs, been a pro for 25 years, and my fiddle is worth more than a new sports car.

You are correct to an extent, stuff like this can be fairly elaborate and on a shoestring budget. It doesnt have that big studio sound certainly but it gets the music across. If I could change one thing it would be the room I record in i.e. my living room, it sucks. I am thinking about getting a mobile lil recorder and recording my fiddle at another place.

cello pudding....I know you from guitar.com and maybe tps?

oh and the song kicked ass. I liked the synth sounds a lot. How much was your synth. The classical guitar sound is awesome.

In the original clip, the Classical guitar is 100% synth, and the ending is synth too. The patch is actually synth and strings. I spent some time thinking about the arrangement: if you heard the guitar alone it wouldnt work as well, but place it over ambient synths and it works great.

I also played the part trying to think like a guitarist  I can play enough bad guitar to know lil things like how to roll the chords instead of playing them like a pianist would, etc.

In regards to gatekeeper mentioning cheap gear and good results, this lil Roland was 300 bucks new and serves me pretty well. The output is low and its not really programmable ( for an idiot like me) but for the money this thing has been a favorite piece of gear over the years.
