I have a very simple setup, 2 Peluso CEMC6 in ORTF, DMP3, Fostex MR8. Last year I recorded our choir with an orchestra of strings and woodwinds, and it turned out fine. The mics were about 10 feet behind the director and 9 feet up. This time we're doing the Rutter Gloria, and that means trumpets in the orchestra. I know they will overdrive the mics at last year's settings. Do I just turn down the gain or move back? I can get the mics up about 14 feet.

If your recording worked well before, keep the mics positioned the same. Turn down the gain.

Yea, just turn down the gain. Trumpets sound a little distant when recording with a stereo pair anyway.
