Currently, I'm using a 57 and a 609 close mic'ing a cab when recording high gain electric guitar. I'm interested in tossing in a 3rd one to go with them and am looking for recommendations and favorites of you guys.

I really am not looking for a particular sound out of the mic. I've heard recordings of the fathead I and thought it sounded good and for the money, seems like a deal. I read on a thread here where a couple of you guys prefer the Karma K6 to the fathead. While a bit more $$, it and the K35 are also both in my buget range though I couldn't find a good description of what the two sound like or if they'd even be any good at micing' a gutiar cab. I see they're recommended for vocals though but I'm not interested in that.

So $300 absolute max spending limit. What recommendations do you guys have?

(BTW, I've tried a couple of md421's and really wasn't happy with the sound. I fought with them for 3 days and never got a sound I liked).

AKG C2000B- Simply the best cheap cab mic I've ever used. It's not too bad for a bunch of other stuff, also, but it gets used on cabs here over a lot of (much) more expensive mics. Although discontinued, there are plenty of them out there for about $150. If at all possible, find one that comes with the H100 shock mount. It's one of the best and most versatile shock mounts anywhere. Good luck-Richie
