Models reproduce the effects of windscreens, low-cut filters, pattern-dependent frequency response and proximity effects.

It's an EQ.

i have no problem with the mic modeler......

.........as long as one understands that it's an EFFECT. you can CALL it a "modeler" all day long......but there's never going to be anything that'll turn a 57 into a u87 (other than ebay, maybe).

that said, i've gotten some pretty interesting sounding results using it. mostly i use it for the "tube saturation" feature in combination with my B1 (or RE38) as my source, and the PL20 as the "modeled" mic. on some vocalists (usually the weaker ones), it makes their voice sound a little more "ballsy" or "gravelly", which sometimes fits the song better (and generally makes them sound a LOT better). on some vocalists (usually the better ones), all it does is add mud.

certainly this could be better achieved with better vocalists and different (better) mic and pre selection, and if i had a cabinet with 18 different vocal mics in it and a rack of a dozen pres, i prolly wouldn't even be posting this. :D but then again, even if i did, i'd still be abusing the sound to see what kind of sounds i can get out of it--i just like to abuse things (well, in a "fidelity" sense at least) to get different sounds.

but as long as someone understands that this is an effect, no different than a delay or a phaser, i have no problem with this sort of product. but when someone drinks the koolaid and thinks that this will turn a 57 into a u87, well, just like in the "POD vs small tube amp" discussions, there's just no substitute for the real thing. :p
