Room pics - YouTube

Hey guys so this link is a video of pics of my room, ok on the wall where the desk is i have 2 foam bass traps on each corner, the mic is on the left corner facing away from the corner, and also that white thing you see in the corner, i dunt know what its called, but it has like a frame with with this type of material, was that a good idea to put it around the mic for the reflections or wtv??? any suggestions to make the room better? i also have that mic foam gaurd attached to the mic stand surrounding the mic.. also what does putting the mic upside down do exactly cause i see it but i don;t understand why?

Get your mic from out of the corner first thing. 1/3 of the way between walls will probably be best. That room appears to be very small. You really need to either DIY rock wool bass traps (straddling corners and first reflection points) or purchase them if you can afford. It is very hard to really get a grasp on the size or layout of the whole room from your video, but the basics I mentioned apply to every room. Monitor should be as far off a wall as possible in a small room, once again, 1/3 of the distance between walls is an ideal start. But you really want your monitors centered between side walls to keep stereo image intact.

Ditto.
Small room...mic in corner...not good.

Post up still shots right here instead of the video with zooms....

Is that a SE2200a microphone? i envy your roomhaving abilities although I agree that mic setup does not look optimal.

You have a hard, reflective floor and a good deal of bare/hard walls.
If you hung a few broadband traps...it wouldn't hurt!

I would put the mic on either side of the bed, right next to it and in the middle of the room...and then sing across the bed and "down" into the other end of the room. The foam reflection filter and the cloth thing...use it, at this point you don't want to take stuff out and make the room even more reflective.
It doesn't matter if the mic is facing up/down....no difference.

From what I can tell in you pics/videos...those "black things" are just corrugated foam panels.

No...I'm talking about broadband traps....something like these (there are other brands, and you can build your own):

RealTraps - MiniTraps

It does pretty much nothing in the corners. Foam in that thickness does nothing but stop highs from bouncing around. I can not give precise frequencies, but through the research I have done, it is basically worthless other than looking cool. The main problems you have with the room deals with low end frequencies. Any addition of foam will really only be beneficial after you have addressed the main problems with fiberglass or rockwool treatments. Many will say that 'foam is garbage'. They are mostly correct. It is used for spot treatment after the main issues have been dealt with. I am sure the manufacturers love the fact that foam is the most visible form of treatment in pictures, so everyone buys it because it is what they see. It is 'NOT' what you want to use first to treat your room. Ever. It will actually lead to making the sound issues in your room worse by starting with it.

wow i spent like 400 bucks on all of it loooool, so how do i make my own panels, and how many and where would i put them, im guessing 4 for each corner? along the whole corner? and then the panels would go where?

I'm sure you did man. Many of us have wasted money on foam. It can have it's uses later. There is a bunch of information here and on other forums about building bass traps. If you plan on building your own (DIY), you should look into the different builds and decide which one is suited to your personal skills. The one that I choose to use, may not be what you are comfortable with. I can however give my favorite if you like. Most important, is that you research, so that you know you have correct information. Nobody wants to be the guy who didn't know better. :D

Well, close. You want to build panels a minimum of 4" thick of either Owens Corning 703, or the less expensive Roxul RHT 80. These types of insulation are much more dense than the fluffy stuff used in that video. It works much better in absorbing low end frequencies in a smaller space. See if there is a SPI (Specialty Products and Insulation) near you.

ok cool, so i have 3 normal corners, the oher corner is like 2 extra walls making it 2 corners, if that makes any sense, so can i just put 3 bass traps in the corners? and where else would i put the panels? and here i re arranged everything once again lol Room pics - YouTube

That looks much better dood. Now treat the corners as well as the first reflection points on walls and ceiling. From your listening position, have someone hold a mirror against walls and ceiling. Move the mirror to where you can see your monitors, place a panel there. You could get away with 2" ones there, but in your small space, thicker will always be better IMO.
