AMD SEMPRON PROCCESOR 3300+
2.01 GHZ
100GB
256 MB

i use tha pc juss for recording and i already deleted all tha programs i dont need, im not gonna really be doin too much advanced stuff, juss vocals over instrumentals, usin about 5 to 10 tracks each song, n some plug ins

im already goin to get 512mb of ram to add onto my 256, and i juss wanted to know whats the next thing i should ugrade

thanks

Hey man....

I know Ram don't grow on trees................ but get that Ram up to the 1 GB (or 2 GB) area.

Sempron should be fine.... gamers are even starting to build affordable gaming machines with the Sempron.

Definitely get your RAM up to at least 1gb. You should probably invest in a second hard drive as well, 7200RPM.

yeah, get that ram up to at least 1gb

if you think about getting it to 2gb... then think about selling of your sempron and buying the 64 x2 duo core from amd. i have one. its lovely.

Yeah definitely the RAM as other have mentioned. Also, depending on how many plug-ins you run and tracks you record, you might need a faster processor. I had an Athlon 64 1.8Ghz and it was maxed out on the CPU in Cubase with about 8 tracks and a lot of plug-ins and some virtual instruments. I upgraded to an AMD Opteron 165, overclocked it to 2.5Ghz, and the CPU meter is at only 10% in the same project.

I did professional projects for many years with 512 (last 3 years), and 256 (3 years before that) of RAM.

I upgraded to 1gb recently and cannot do anything more than I could before. Yeah, if I was running a bunch of VSTi's or DXi's, the extra RAM helps, but hell, you can Freeze the track too you know! :)

More RAM is mostly overrated for a DAW. I would take 512mb and a smokin' fast cpu and be happy as hell.

what's your budget for the upgrades?

for what it's worth, i never run out of memory on my little projects but i'm always rendering/freezing tracks to free up cpu. a second hard drive is always a good idea too.

Which versions of which software were you using? 5 years ago I was running session on 256mb, but my software was old even at that time. More modern applications require more RAM. It also depends on which application you are running. Some are more RAM hungry than others.

I built a machine to run PT-LE about a year and a half ago. I started with 512mb and soon realized I needed 1gb. Havn't had any performance issues since.

I was running Sonar 5 on 512mb of RAM. No problems. I had a couple of projects that I maxed out the cpu. After doubling the RAM, absolutely no increase in performance.

I stay up to date on everything.

If ProFoolz-Lame Edition is a memory hog, that is just another reason it will NEVER install on my computer! ;)

thanks for all tha info guys

...lol@profools lame edition

could someone explain the process of "FREEZING/RENDERING A TRACK" ?

seems like alot of people don't like Pro-Tools LE, why is that? just the limited number of tracks?

what has an easier/more intuitive user interface Sonar or Samplitude?

Don't listen to the guys who dispute the benfit of RAM.

I'm a Comptia A+ Certified Network Engineer.

They may not "feel" as though the RAM is helping, but it really comes down to math, science and numbers.

Feelings have nothing to do with it.

There are performance monitors, and ways of really knowing the benefit... but for the LESS THAN $99... Just go get the RAM.

What's your sound card? That's often a good thing to upgrade if you're doing music.

512 is PLENTY for most apps if you arent doing MIDI. It can help to have more ram for your EDL though if theres a lot of editing. 1 gig would be overkill even for that. Of course if you load BFD once...BLAMMMO better get some more ram :)

No problem.....

I had to go back too, and see if it was pro tools he was asking about.

Took quite a while to find the needed specs..... buried real good on the Digi site, as you can see from the URL...
