Total System RAM

Yup, one thing i was thinking. But people have their own budgets. I have always had the mentality that i will expand, improve, etc, any peice of gear i have that is very valuable to me. My computer being the most import peice of gear i have with my current set up.mattkw80 said:I'm having trouble believing people are wondering if they should boost their ram to the maximum or not.

That said, i've used a similar machine to mine with 1 gig of ram (specs are in previous post but basically 2.19ghz amd athalon/2 gigs of ram) with no real noticeable difference. But the jump from 512 to a gig was defineatly noticeable. 2 gigs was still worth the money to me though, i don't feel like i'm missing out, etc.
I thought my cpu was god send when i got my comp about a year ago. Now i feel like it's fine but not great. It's hard to stay ahead of the curve. I don't really have any issues but i see my cpu more taxed than it used to be as my software set up grows. On the good side, i don't have a standalone machine, i have not optimised it and it still does fine.mattkw80 said:My CPU isn't great though........ and that's where BFD kills me.

That's a big difference too. Having a dedicated machine. I'm sure i have spyware right now. I have like 66 running process, etc. Not optimised for audio because it is my everyday comp, i need that. With a dedicated machine for audio, i'm sure i could get away with alot less. Another thing to factor in to the equation.
I use 3 of those, i guess my main thing, it's not a concern if you are a bit overkill. I don't need to run them all the time, even if i have something bad and i know it hasn't been caught yet (the spyware always comes before the fix), it's not an issue. That's my point i guess. Sure i could get away with a pentium 3 and 512 ram if i set it up right (i think) but i don't have to deal with that. I can talk on aim if i need a break, check my e-mail, and go on car forums while still playing around or listening to a loop i just made or when i'm mixing vocals to my beats (poorlymattkw80 said:BTW....
