Hey, I just finished working on this, and aside from a few tweaks, I feel like I'm done with it. The band is happy with it so far, but I want to see what you guys would change with it, what it needs, what it has too much of.
I'll give a rundown real quick...
Band is called One Fine Line, from Lexington, Ky, medium-rock, and they drove all the way to Louisville about 6 times now just to record with me, I feel honored. Great guys.
www.nowhereradio.com/demoking/singles 2nd one on the list i think, Under Your Skin
Orange County drum kit, tuned well with new heads, made a huge difference. I really like that kit, but the vented snare was hard to work with.
drum OH: C4's
toms: E609's, floor MD421
snare MD-441 (snare too loud?)
Kick E609 backed up with a DFH trig
Bass: Warwick direct into RNP
guitars Peavey Ultra head w/ Sheffield cabinet, MD-441 about a foot out from the cab, added nothing but a bit of high shelf around 16k and maybe a db of 2k (so shoot me, fuck it)
Vocals: verses MD441, chorus and backing vocals, U195, a hair of high shelf around 14K, I think they need a tad bit of de-essing for sure.
acoustic guitars: C4 about a foot out.
Reverb I used on almost every track to give it all some mesh, even overheads. I used Waves Verb, on a preset called Studio A, a really good sounding room verb. I like it enough that I dont mess with the parameters on it.
It could use more space (as in trimming freqs) around the instruments, but its a very full mix I think. I will do some tweaks and try your ideas to it sunday, so make some suggestions and I'll try them out.
Are the acoustic guitars after the solo loud enough? One thing I do know, is the reverb in the distorted vocal right after the acoustic guitar part is way too lush (Sonic Timeworks 4080L cathedral setting) so that will have to be backed off some.
Mp3 messed up my hats and cymbals a little.
