Check My Mix

hey Jammer

I really liked the tone but i couldn't help thinking there was a tracking problem, you know that distant feeling but i wasn't sure then i looked at it and saw that your song is primed for mastering, you see some songs WILL benifit from mastering some WON'T this one would because the mixing is essentially right on... so not being able to resist i did it and i have to say when one does a one on one... it really did sound a lot LOT better.

also i havn't had a chance at trying my new 1351 system on a track that was already at about -17 it seems to absorbe the extra gain and handle it fine (my suprise is apparent, and i know know the mechanics of why this is this)

As you may know one can't perform majic but i have to say it cleared a lot of that issue.

if i spent longer on it i would work hard to just take a little more boom out of the bass as it does have that, but i kept it in because some humans perceive that as a good thing on different systems as it spreads the track.

anyhow really nice also i like that solo, when tracking the guitar maybe look at both mic-ing the Amp and DI aswell.

if you want to hear the mastered track just email me i'll post it up somewhere it's yours if you like it, if not whatever.

no snags i don't want to be a mastering engineer or anyhting i want to move into production so i was doing this just for practice.

thanks man...would anyone else please give me some advice....:)

I'm no connoisseur of this genre but the mix sounds really good to me. No excess volumes or straining to hear anything. Overall a nice balance. I would hazard a guess that the band you recorded is pretty happy with the results

thanks alot man that really means alot to me

ha ha

funny i've been listening to it heaps more since mastering it i like it becasue of the little hook in the rythem section and it dosn't "try to hard."

plus as said just there the fequencys were beautiful to master it's much fatter now.

i have to show you.
i'll post it.

your file

i assume you already have the original

but i will put a two up for people aswell because i want to know if you have any problems with this master.

i would like advice, that way we can all learn.

except if it is to say "it's too hot" because it is around nominal -11RMS which is normal for this music type.

if there is distortion present i'd like to know.

Btw

i since have figured i can achieve another at least 2 dbRms and a better result but anyhow this is cool it's a good song, tell the band the non focus on "tightness" or "complexity" has done them justice as they have focused instead on getting a catchy tune.

If it was more tight it would sound shit.

I couldn't disagree more. The lack of tightness - especially from the drummers attempts at double-bassing - make this song sound a mess. The right guitar is all over the place too. It sounds very amateurish. This genre needs total tightness from the kick and guitars. It aint happening here.

As for the mix, it sounds pretty good. Guitars are fat and the kicks are thumping. There's a slight hint of low end muddiness in the guitars and bass, but the kick still pumps through, so it aint too bad. My only nit is with the snare. It's present in the mix, but it lacks a little snap. Just barely though. It's pretty close. I hate this vocal style, but it's done well here. The "mastered" version sounds slightly better, maybe just because it's louder. I don't hear much difference sonically except for the loudness. The unmastered version sounded fine. Good job overall on this song.

yeah

"I couldn't disagree more."

well one thing I’ve learnt, sometimes a producer should know when to "stop" producing, so i totally disagree, in fact the only 3 reason for me that this song stands out amongst the 1000's of other songs in it's genre:

1. the little "rock" hook in the rhythm section.

2. the fact that it is "rock", "tight" i.e not as tight as others.

3. the Gallic melodic solo.

now, really not sure if any of the above was intentional but it worked for me.

as for the master, well i guess that's what a master is isn't it a better version of the original, if you listen you will hear the transparent differences plus, I was dealing with a 128k mp3, with an original i could, as said, do better again.

Well you certainly made it louder. I don't know if it's actually better though. Don't hurt yourself trying to suck your own cock. :D

No worries

"Well you certainly made it louder. I don't know if it's actually better though. Don't hurt yourself trying to suck your own cock."

impossible!
I've had the relevant Corrective surgery. (Spine discs taken out, plus re-arrangement of internal organs)

as said, I thnk the Guitar "core" sounds better and the vocals stand out more.(sloshing noises).......

mix is fine, you can hear everything clearly, sounds pretty compressed but I imagine that is what it is supposed to sound like.
The semi-double bass is really, really distracting.
I'm not a big fan of the genre so I can't compare it to anything I am familiar with.
Mix pretty good, band not as good as mix.
cheers
