huh???
This is a rough mix. Not perfect I know, but tell me what you think about the sound and mix.

I know that there are some timing issues and the vocals aren't that good (singer was sick and will be redone). But, how does it sound? Do the instruments work well together? Levels of instruments? How about the drums? Especially the kick. I seem to have a hard time with the kick.

Like I said...a rough mix. Recorded in one take. Anyway...feedback is welcome.

Thanks.

Whoa.............................

Listening to it on soundclick I hear some kind of weird echo, vibrato, phaser kind of thing going on. What the heck is that about? It doesn't sound like that in Cubase.

A few minutes later...after investigating...it only does it when converted to mp3. The .wav file sounds fine. That's annoying.

Then I convert it to mp3 using iTunes and it doesn't do it. Could it be Audacity doing it? Let me upload another version.

That was complicated.

Suck 4 db out of the kicks at around 350hz, and give it a 4 db push around 2khz. See what that does for you.

I like the song and who ever is singing has a really good voice. The song as a whole sounds muddy to me and its a little distorted in places. Keep playing with it and post your re-mix. Good song though!

Hmmm.... Man... I'm torn on this one.

Either the tracking needs help, or the tones were crunched in the mp3 compression.... Something isn't letting this song be very hi-fi.

The vocals are very middy... Vocalist can sing very well, but the recording really doesn't let his voice shine...

Well... actually, seems like everything is that way.

When the song first started, it seemed like there was a lot of mid-bass standing out in the mix. Could be the bass, could be the guitar...

Drums need to be compressed badly.

The recording just seems a bit closed to me. Needs air.

Great song, though... I love the vibe. Keep it up!

I've been looking forward to hearing this song all week. Not disappointed. More outstanding vocals.

I have to agree with poeticintensity on the drums - although I have to admit I'm prejudiced having him collab on my tracks...

There is a lot of mid or mid/bass build up in the instruments that, although it fills the background, sounds a bit muddy.

Wonderful piece!

What mic are you using?

:):D:):D

If I have to hear another christian song on these forums I'm going to stab my self in the ears with a rusty screw driver. :D

Awww...I hate to hear that.

Would you prefer phillips head or flat head? :D:laughings::D

I just don't get christian music. I man how many more methods does christianity need to force feed people bullshit? Rock N Roll is the devils music, you can't have your cake and eat it too. :laughings:

Thanks for listening and for the help.

I think that the mp3 compression is doing something screwy to it. I'm not saying that's all of it, but it's definitely making it worse. I had a very light delay on a couple of tracks in Cubase, then when converted to mp3 it got extremely worse. I had to go back and bypass the delay al together before converting to mp3.

I have a group compressor on the drums. I'll give it a little more.

And more air. I can do that. :D

Thanks again.

Force Feed? Unless the song automatically started playing when you turned on your computer, I don't think that you were forced to listen. I'm pretty sure you could've figured out what type of song it was by the title of the thread...Our Great God.

And I'm sorry to hear that you think it's BS. A lot of people do. And a lot of people will realize that it's not, when the time comes. And honestly, I'm glad I'm one of the ones who believes it now. Because our God is Great. He created everything around us and blesses us with everything that we have, even though we don't deserve it.

Enough of that though...if you don't like the song, don't listen. It's just that easy. Although if you do listen and realize it's true, that's even better.:D

Thanks on the vocals. Although they're not me. He was really struggling that night.

Yeah but if you put it out there, I'm putting it out there too :laughings:

This is a really nice melody on some really nice changes...and way beyond some of the namby-pamby Christian music I hear.

The guitar has issues...the distortion is wierd...not in a good way....and the bass range has to be cut back when the vocal and bass come in. It swallows the whole mix.
And, there are over-ringing notes in the bass range of the guitar on a particular part that need attention...and the intonation is wanting between instruments, generally....mostly the guitar, I think. That track needs re-recording....maybe make the backbone a strumming acoustic in the beginning, and thinner e-guitar with a creamier sound, later...and more attention paid to intonation and over-ringing notes?

Then, when the drums introduce themselves, the bass drum is left orphan by a consistently sustaining bass part....some unison on the BD figure would lift things a lot dynamically, I think.

I like the lyric. Sincere. Applause.

Phil, everything else aside...I would like to get you comments on the mix.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've always had trouble getting my electric to sound good when recorded. I turned down the gain for this recording, but I think I need to turn it down some more.

The suggestion about the acoustic is a good one.

I'll probably just retrack the whole song.:p
