Taming the World--for now
OK. This Challenge will be the last one of 2008 and the first of 2009. The Challenge is presented in TWO parts. The reason for doing this is several of our forum responders don't have the ability/equipment to turn their lyrics into music. The two part Challenge will allow everyone to participate. This is the Challenge:For December you need to write a song about your first bike, your first car, or your first apartment/house. Lyrics only! For January you need to rewrite and develop the material into a fully produced (any genre) piece of music.

The Rules:
1.No comments are allowed prior to the deadline dates. It is a distraction and material ends up trickling in in various forms throughout the month.
2.Deadline for December (Lyrics Only) is midnight, local time, on New Years Eve.
3. Deadline for January (Recorded Music) is midnight, local time, on January 31st.
4.The songs must be about one of the three topics. IE. "My first....." bike, car, dwelling.
5.The song should show your strong emotional attachment/aggravation to your chosen topic.

Enjoy. Hope to see many of you join in the fun.

Great theme

With xmas holidays I might actually get it done

I will rise to the challenge.

I had an enforced period of stillness in a passenger seat this mornig, during which time a number of phrases started circulating in my brain.

I'm half inclined to post these phrases now, and work on them progressively and highly visibly so that there is a progressive history of a song's development.

Clever thought

....I'm half inclined to post these phrases now, and work on them progressively and highly visibly so that there is a progressive history of a song's development.

I think that historical snippets of how you get from conception to the rough draft might be useful for others to see and would encourage others to do likewise. As long as no one comments on the content or the process it would not be a violation of Rule #1. Comments from the peanut gallery would need to be withheld until January 1st in keeping with the spirit and rules of the Challenge.

Bumpity....

....just to keep the rules up front for a bit.

Good challenge, Dave. I began working on the music last night.

Cheers,
Joseph

And just to reiterate from another thread...challenge-doers should feel free to submit their pieces also to Sounds of the Weak. I'll try to arrange for the HR challenge to align with a SOW weekly assignment towards the end of January.

Thanks much for the reminder. Once it is recorded I will interweb it your way.

Tonight is the deadline

Remember that midnight tonight (local time) is the deadline for the December/January Challenge. I don't know how this affects those of you from Australia and Hong Kong since I have plenty of trouble just keeping track of Daylight Saving Time twice annually. No matter where you reside, get your Challenge entries in so that I can paste them in a separate thread and folks can start tearing them apart in a constructive manner. I have mine in but it is not very admirable in its construction. The rewrites for me will be both painful and extensive. :o

I did start playing around with the music for it yesterday and am mildly pleased where that is headed. I also took on a major rewiring/patching/cabling of the studio (Worked until after midnight:mad:) that is going to take a few days to start the year off. It is stuff that I have been fighting with and putting off for the last ten months because I knew it would be a giant pain in my nether regions. I wasn't wrong in that evaluation but it will make my workflow far more functional when I am done. The biggest pain is changing out the entire rack and recabling the patch bays. These are the very few days in my life when I despise analog and outboard gear. BTW-Happy New Year to each of you.

Happy New Year, Dave. Do you want the lyrics posted in this thread initially (e.g., is this the official turn-in thread)?

Cheers,
Joseph

That wopuld be fine Joseph. But anywhere else is good too as long as I can find them and post them to a new thread. Thanks for the Happy New Year and right back atcha. :D:D

It's late by HK time, but it Midnight somewhere!

Heart and Home

1
The first house where we first kissed
We shared with a saxophonist
The rooms were small the walls were thin
And could not hold our dreams within

2
The first house where we first loved
We lived beneath a mad landlord
The bed was big the carpet torn
Our dreams and shadows kept us warm

CH
My heart your home
My arms are walls to keep you safe
This home is yours in our embrace
Though time will wear on castle stone
My heart is here always your home

3
The first house where you first dreamt
Was the last house where we paid rent
It looked out on a crystal sea
Then your sister made our family

CH

MID-8
When rain drops fall, you just call, and we will open our heart
Shelter within, till you begin, to feel the warmth of our love

CH
