Im getting into recording.... I just do it for fun, as i know it isnt my fututre...

Im using a really cheap mic from radioshack haha..

Now with this cheap mic, is there anything I can do to make the quality any better? Like use a sock as a filter lol.... Im pretty much broke

You can check myspace.com/deionjames to listen to the sound quality

Just work on microphone placement to get the sound you want and after that you'll come to know the limitations of that mic. then maybe then it will be time to move on to an other mic. look around there's deals every day out there.

There probably isn't much you can do to improve the sound of a cheap mic. Don't toss it out yet though. Try it for micing other things. A mic can be terrible for vocals but be great for a snare mic or for distorted guitar. Even the better quality mics have their limits and work better for some things than for others. Experiment with it. Shop around for a better mic, good ones can sometimes be found used at pawn shops, flea markets, yard sales etc...

Radio Shack gets a bad rap around here so I may be the only person who will say anything good about them. Not all their mics are totally bad, the quality control is bad though. You might buy two identical mics expecting to get a matched set only to find one works great while the other is total junk. Unfortunately Radio Shack does not have a "try before you buy" policy so you never know till you get home, and returning something to Radio Shack is a PITA.
