Cheapest soundcard.

What is the cheapest soundcard I can get with decent quality. At least 24/44 but more would be great. I only need at the most two inputs. Thanks in advance, Matt

I have an M-Audio Dman2044, and I recommend their cards. I hear you can get the Audiophile for around $149 now (I think).

If you simply can't afford the Audiophile, according to Ethan Winer the Soundblaster Audigy (basic version $69) does an excellent job, although it records at 16 bit. But if you are going to be using MIDI, the Audigy also has soundfont capability. http://www.ethanwiner.com/audigy.html

yah, I know about that (esp. the C-port), but for an extra $30, I'd go for the Audiophile2496 anyday for better quality.

I have the DSP24ve and I do not recommend it. Noisy inputs and various strange things going on with that card. If you expand it with the digital bracket for S/PDIF ins and outs, you're asking for trouble. I had mine working flawlessly for about 6 months though, before all hell broke loose. There are these irregular, loud pops going on in the S/PDIF ins... of what I've heard is a bad component on the bracket that causes these pops... it could possibly be solved by some soldering work on the card, but do it wrong and you short-circuit the whole thing.

I'm getting rid of it.
