That's a good price... and if I was you, I'd make sure that they are indeed the "matched stereo pair" like the ones from 8th street music http://www.8thstreet.com/product.asp?ProductCode=6450&Category=Microphones

ADDED: Also, make sure you take a good look at the capsules and make sure neither mic is missing the little ring that helps hold the grill and etc.

how can i tell if they are a matched pair ???

i plan on using them for acoustic guitar and drum over heads

i doubt they are a matched pair....................

what sort of diffrence will be with just a regular PAIR..... will it be completly noticiable.... ( just using them with my digi002r in a basement )

MF replaced the 603s with the 993s, which have a low end roll off and -10 dB pad. They're also supposed to be completely different mics, but I haven't heard a thing about what they really do sound like. Those are $170 for a matched pair.

Warning!
I attempted to buy a pair at Music123 through ebay. I ordered them ($199) and I think I remember their ad had free shipping and they were to be delivered in 7 to 10 days. So I waited. Then I wondered, "maybe it's business days" although the ad said “days” so I waited some more. After more than two weeks I called asking where were my mics. I was told that "there was a note on my order" and they were out of stock and MXL was slow in delivering Music123 new mics. They asked me if I wanted to wait some more or have my money returned. I waited another week and they never called so I called them again. Still no mics so I asked for my money back. They said they would do it “right away”. I had to call again three more times on three different days before I was refunded. The whole ordeal took about 6 weeks. Communication from music123 is terrible.

If you are to order from them, call ahead make sure the mics are in stock. It will save you time and gray hair. Many people have had a lot of success with Music123 (according to their feedback), I did not.

I also saw a place where they are selling matched pairs for $189: Hollywood Pro Audio. They were auctioning a PRESONUS MP 20 Mic Pre Amp & throwing in a pair of MXL 603S w/case. I emailed to see how much the mics were separately and they quoted $189. You can find them on ebay by following this link:
http://stores.ebay.com/Hollywood-Pro-Audio_W0QQsspagenameZl2QQtZkm

I have not purchased anything from them yet.

Good luck with the mics, Harvey gives them high praise.

I've seen lots of bad feedback for Music123 on eBay. The only thing I've ever ordered from them was some MoonGels, but I figured it was worth the risk since it was less than a $10 order.

alecmcmahon, the "matched stereo pair" should come in a case with shock mounts, clips, and etc... and it should also have a document/paper stating that the mics are a matched stereo pair.

PS... thanks guys for the heads-up about Music123.

music123 price of $179 is just a pair, not matched....$279 is their matched price.......

I wouldnt worry about matched pair.......

thanks for the replys....

guys i wasnt orderring them off music123, i was just using their price so guitar center would sell em to me for cheaper.

i picked up two mxl603's with shockmounts for 180....

what are the big benefits of a "matched pair?" i have 2 of them but i doubt its a matched pair. they sound very good when i record my acoustic with them.

Going to brick and mortar mom and pop stores, I got quoted a matched pair stereo kit (case and shockmounts) for flat 200. (This was earlier this month while I was shopping for software.) If you can get that, go for it. Most online places are a bit higher than that...

I've got 2 brand new in boxes unmatched 603's I decided I don't need. Paid 198. for them...will let go for 150. Was gonna put on Ebay but kinda pain in the ass. Also have a couple of used ARTv3's like new.

i havent been able to test them out to much, but i did set up just one of em to record my acoustic with..... sounded very good.

i've bassicly been just trying to buy a decent mic arsenal for use with all the basics plus Drums...

so far i got

(2)Shure SM57
(2) MXL 603s
Shure Beta 52a
Studio Projects B1

of course the 603's would act as overheads on the drums.... the beta 52 on kick, one of the 57's on snare... .... should i use the other 57 on high hat ?or between the small two toms... or the B1 between the small two toms, ... or the b1 on the floor tom..... all trying to be set up for modern / alt. rock music.
going into the digidesign 002 rack.

Yeah, I just saw that, they look nice.

I wonder how the 993's sound... has anyone here heard them yet?

Hummm, I wonder if Marshall is going to discontinue making the MXL603S?

Yeah, I and a bunch of other people here got the matched MXL603SPR's from 8th ST when they were under $200... and a bunch of us also got the unmatched ones for something like $49 each about a year ago or so. It's kool when everyone tracks down the lowest price... it saves everyone here money. :)

EDIT: ADDED... note, the matched stereo pair is MXL 603SPR... with the "SPR" at the end.

I have looked far and wide, and it doesn't appear that anyone who talks about recording on the internet owns any hehe. MF was sold out of them again last time I checked. I was thinking about just buying them for the heck of it, but their return policy with mics (like if they have one or not) is confusing.
