If anyone was told by any of my dealers at any time that ADK was made in Germany, shame on them. If anyone who knows me personally isn't finding this thread a hoot, I'd be just plain flabbergasted. I don't expect to change anyone who has made their mind up. If you have made your mind up, I respect that!
My Great Grandfather was Dutch, not German. If you look closely there is no "S" in the name. But like Generis, it's really an inside joke for us. Subtle I admit. And certainly just a made up name that Brian and I thought up late one night. No marketing spin. Just a "Concept" - a concept of trying to Replicate some very expensive Condenser Mics. And Yes: I think we have clearly captured the Sonic Qualities of some great Vintage German and Austrian mics. You either agree or not. If you choose not to listen to our mic because you don't like the name, it's my loss!!
ADK is just a bunch of folks living in the woods in NW Washington State who like to play and record music. Acoustic and Mic lovers.
What you see is what you get. Great mics, seat of the pants marketing. We do the best we can in a world of Giants!!!
If our dry sense of irony is lost on everyone, I apologize!
I would be ask: judge me by my customer service and my mics.
If you don't like the name, and you never try ADK, again: my
lack of market savvy. And My Loss. I take full blame for it!
I am a mic lover and musican; and only a reluctant CEO.
YET: I submit we were the first mic out of China to sound European. Or one of the pioneers of this at very least!
So if we took a European name for our brand, I can't unring the bell. Over a year ago we took the "formal name" off our logo, and became - simply - ADK. So if my Dutch name offended anyone, sorry. What can I say, to err is human. And I am.
Sincerely,
Larry Villella, ADK Microphones (dba AudioDumpfKauft)
