Hi,

Can anyone recommend a vocal mic for me. I am not a shouter or screamer and have a low but sweet sounding voice. I don't have a massive budget either approx 300 euro - 500 dollars.

Any help appreciated

I've looked up the M130 and it seems to be a stereo mike figure of eight. you didnt mean that one surely?

Most (all?) ribbon mikes have figure 8 patterns, so that's not something to be concerned about. And I'm pretty sure the M130 isn't a stereo mike.

This is a hard question to answer as it if a very personal decision.

the two that jump to mind for me are the Shure SM7 or and AKG414. Two very different mics that can be had for < US$500 used off ebay.

Not quite all, but close enough. Beyer managed to come up with a hypercardioid design (the m160).

For a low voice... maybe a tube LDC. Something to add a little brightness but not too much.

the thing that bothers me about the M130 is you cant switch from figure 8 which cant be good for a vocal surely?

If you are in a good recording space (either a dead space or one with pleasing room accoustics) a fig-8 ribbon is excellent for vocals.

Edited: I'll no longer recommend any products associated with Alan Hyatt.
