cheap rack stands

I use one that's identical to that one (thought it's not MF brand) for 2 Layla's and 4 patch bays, and it's pretty sturdy once you actually screw the gear into it.

I have one of these 12-space jobs for a mixing board: http://www.lashen.com/vendors/MAP/Racks/Knock_Down/dr-xx.asp

The rails connect to the base legs with two heavy bolt assemblies on each side (no welds). I don't even use the cross member panel since my mixer is 11 spaces. That panel isn't really heavy duty anyway, just keeps the two sides spaced. The other bonus is that if you wanted to mount the rails somewhere else you can take it apart and just use the rails.

P.S., those prices seem high. I think I bought mine for ~$35 at a local electronics store.

Thanks

Thanks for the help guys. I hadn't thought about the gear bolted to the stand actually reinforcing the structure. I think I'll be all set with the flimsy looking one from MF.

Those Nice Racks look pretty ... well.. nice :)

I might have to pick up a couple. Thanks for the link!

Before you buy look at this link:

Nice Racks

Solid wood and very reasonable.

I have several in my studio.

Oh Wow, I might have to get one of those when I get some cash. I just bought a bunch of gear (hence the need for the rack) and I'm broke as a joke. I wonder if he makes desks

I don't think he makes desks but If you can throw together $500 (or less if you can get the pro discount at GC), check this out:

Producer's Station

I have this desk with a couple of Nice-Racks on it and really like it.

Click on my sig line then click on the Photographs link to see this desk and racks in action. He built the two racks at a custom height to fit under the top shelf. It works out to 5-spaces. (Please ignore the Behringer Preamp. It's been replaced with a Great River... ;) )
