What would you recommend that I buy used for around $60??? (my student budget is very limited) I'm doing acoustic guitar/vocal recording onto my computer (Sonar) and live through a PA.

Would I be further ahead to go for an M-AudioBuddy (will the low phantom power 44.1 I think ...run my Studio Projects B1???) mic pre or a Behringer 802 mixer (48V phantom power)??? And why??? Thanks .......BJ

The audio buddy will be fine. I have heard that the phantom power is a little low on this unit, but I haven't noticed any problems with my MXL v67. It really is a good intro level preamp.

i am going to have to side with the mixer.

it will work for live use for a long time in the future (well as long as it lasts, dont know how much abuse it will take on the road).

and will get you by as far as a preamp for now. either way you arent getting a "great" preamp. so i figure go for the one that is more useful.

The new Behringer UB series of mixers is superior to their old ones and are in the same price range.

I have a UB series mixer and the Audio Buddy. The mixer is noisy, and to my ears, doesn't sound as good as the Audio Buddy. I'm actually quite disappointed with the Behringer. Of course, if playing live music is in the equation, then a mixer is the best comprimise. However, like I said, it doesn't sound as good.
