I'm looking for a cheap headphone amp to use for monitoring while tracking with my DP-24. Want to keep it around $50 new or used. I have narrowed it down to two units, but am open to suggestions. I am considering the Behringer Amp800 or the Presonus HP-4.
The Behringer offers two outs per channel and two stereo inputs which each channel can select from. I figure I can use my effects 2 send as an alternate monitor mix for that "more ME in the monitor" guy. And yes, I've been "that guy".
The Presonus has one out per channel, and only input channel. New, it is about double the price of the Behringer, but the difference is much less in the used market. It's more solid, and reputed to have more power, but the specs show them to be fairly close.
So far for phones I have a pair of AKG K-240 and Sony MDR V250. Looking for more of the AKGs.
I'll be recording mostly blues and classic rock demos and some originals in the same vein. Three or four pieces for the initial tracks mostly to get the drums and reference tracks.
Has anyone compared these units directly?
