hi i have a home studio and have been looking into learning turtables and some in my studio. what is a good beginner deal that will give me everything i need to play them out of my mackie mixer or to record them directly?

If you use 2 tables you will need a dj mixer with a crossfader. Or at least it's preferable. Then you run that into your mixer or soundcard. I'm not sure about what the coolest or cheapest tables are right now, but I stand by my 1200's. Happily...

cheap?!? tables...

Mentil69,

if you don't mind used gear, a guy near me has 2 1200s for sale for $525.00 for the pair. They have nice mods - no zero click (no weird wobble just above or below the zero point), and a box underneath that you plug the tables RCAs and ground into (as opposed to having them dangle out of the chassis).

At that price, including a hundred and a half or two for a mixer (if you're really trying to save loot, i'll sell you on of my old - but still good - mixers for $75 bucks), you can be "fully pro" for $600.00 plus shipping. Not bad, if you ask me.

Otherwise, check out those starter kit packages that come with tables, mixer, headphones, cartridges, etc. But don't expect nice action from them tables.

If you're interested, PM me or email at:

Good luck...

Basically, i would love to buy that off you but its a little out of my price range right now. But in the future i would definitely be looking for something like that.

If you want to get in the game properly, then you'll have to pay the entry fee.

You have to at least have Technic 1200's.

Remember........ if at first you don't buy right, you will wind up buying (READ: paying) twice.

ya i completely agree, but im saying right now i really dont have that much money.

Check this out...

If you're smart, you'll buy ONE good turntable and a cheap mixer for the same price as a "starter dj" box kit...

Just under $350.00 bux for pro gear. If it's still too much, just buy one turntable ($260.00 or so) and get your girlfriend/boyfriend or whoever to get you a cheap dj mixer...

I don't care if you buy it from my friend or not, i just hope that you'll do like Spin said and "buy right."

If that's still too much, then I suggest you save up until you can afford something worth buying. There's not really much "middle ground" when it comes to 'tables if you ask me...

ya thanx for the feedback. Before i buy something i will definitely save up at least 500 and use your advice.

Look, mentil69.................

You live directly on the edge of Evanston AND Chicago.

There are a million cats that have used 1200's sitting in their basement, collecting dust (because they thought that they wanted to be a DJ, but couldn't hack it.......). You could pick up an old pair of 1200's for roughly $250.00.

If they are REALLY old, then you might have to replace the patch cords or the lights, and maybe even one of the arms, but you will still come out cheaper picking them up used (if they are scratched up of have stickers on them, you can pick up custom colored covers for $25.00).

In fact, if you need to get them fixed, then go to MIDWEST STEREO on Diversy and Clark, ask for the owner Sammy or his wife Betty, and tell them I told you to come up there (they'll give you a swet deal on fixing your equipment). :D

Peace..... I'll holla'

In fact, now that I think about it, there might be an extra old set down at one of the clubs I spin at.......

I'll check the club to see if they are still there. If they are still there, I'll ask the owner if she would sell them to you. :)

Peace.....

Or...................................................

You could also call the record store named Hot Jams (on Archer & Pulaski).
Ask to speak with Steve or Andre (the owner) tell them that I had you call up there because you are looking for some used 1200's (they'll hook' you' up')

For $250.00 a pair for old ones, I WANT 2 PAIR!!!!!!!

can't ever have enough wheels... makes for a phat jam session when my homies come thru...

My nukka...

I'll PM you to work out the details and shit.

Wheels, wheels, and mo wheels...
