Hardware, software, parametric, graphic?

(Though I'm afraid the answer might be the same regardless...)

You aren't even going to find a "really crappy complete P.O.S." for $50.

Graphic? Why...?

Or are you just feeding a side-chain and need a horribly crappy God-awful $50 graphic just to feed the insert?

I thought this guy might live under a bridge and eat billy goats, but I just checked his other posts...

"High quality" and "cheap" really don't work in the same sentence.

"Usable" and "cheap" can at times, but you'll end up with signal degradation

I use cheap graphic eqs in a live setup - I have a DOD 31 band graphic for the mains and a Behringer 15 band graphic unit for the monitors. I use them for subtractive eq in a reverberant room and they function well in that capacity. So - are you considering subtractive eq for live music in problem rooms with a loud rockabilly band? - sure they'll work, along with compressors and limiters. They'll help keep the P.A. system from running out of control. They range from about a hundred bucks up (way up).

But for Studio use? Not even close. You'll be far better off with a computer plug in and forget the outboard circuitry.

That wasn't the OP--that was me--trying to narrow him down and see if he know what he wanted.

Oh, but it was the OP... subliminal flash... right in the middle of his post... take another look...

Damn...I completely missed that. So a) my eyes are going, and thus b) I asked a partially useless question. (Like neither of those have ever happened before! :D)

Oh I wouldn't worry about it, early onset alzheimer's It's an easy mistake

I think he edited it after you asked (quick glance over the time stamps).

actually i did a little research and would like to go parametric

Why not buy cockos reaper for $50. It is up their with the best DAW software and it includes an "Unlimited band IIR based equalizer". :D

Cheap hardware EQs are tough. About the only thing worth thinking about out there is the discontinued DBX 242. And those still go for @$150 each or so. There are some broadcast/live units made by Rane and Symetrix that might work if you buy used. I have a Symetrix SX-201 parametric EQ unit that might do in a pinch and a Rane parametric EQ for my guitar rack. Not optimal all purpose EQs, but they do work and are really pretty cheap used. At the OP's price point, I'd be more inclined to go plug-in.

Alesis used to make a decent Graphic EQ aimed at the home recording market over a decade ago. Can't remember the model number, but you may find one in your price.

I've been looking for quality parametric EQ's at a low cost, but it's just not possible.

The Pre Sonus EQ3B may be useable and can be found cheap used. It's not expensive new.
