Hi I just really wanted to recommend this to people as I searched for months for a decent audio recording laptop.
IBM Lenovo T60.
It has the TI chipset on the PCMCIA card so you just need a firewire card thats also TI and it will work well with firewire audio interfaces.

You can pick these up for around £200-£400.

They are silent, best built laptops ever made, incredibly light and sleek in their design.
They do not break and because they are old they are super cheap.

Just thought it might help people searching like I did. Hope this helps someone!!

Been looking into these and they are appealing for the money. Must say i will probably go with the Scan. co.uk Laptops with Sandybridge due out this June/July, specially custom audio lappies around 700+

yeah man its totally up to you. If you can afford it go with the pro audio one, it will be built from the bottom up for audio and if you have any problems then you got the support of the company.. But for half that price you can get a pretty mean mother :-) ....
Not sure if the Sandybridge will be built quite like a tank! But I would probably go for it if i had the money.. Cheers for the response..

no but as it has the pcmcia slot you could attach one.. or with a usb? not sure

Coolieo I've been looking for one that will take a SD card.

I don't recall ever seeing a laptop that had an SD card slot. But I did buy a universal 'storage adapter' that plugs into my USB port and has 2.5", 3.5", and 5.25" SATA and IDE slots, and a 66-in-1 card reader, so I am covered.

My old Sony Vaio laptop had one built in.
But as the OP said, the IBM T series is rock solid. I'm currently on a Lenovo T400 and while not as good as when IBM made them, it is still a nice laptop. The T400 does NOT, however, have the TI chipset. The newest models, the Lenovo T420 might have TI chipset, but I doubt it.

Yeah thats why this one is such a find. I spent ages looknig for a laptop with the TI chipset. Its one of the only ones in the "T" range. My dad has the T61 and this does not have the TI chipset!!! Pretty hilarious!
