Hi, all. Long time (busy, busy, busy)

I'm doing mixing now for my church - cool, get to get used to doing some live stuff, no problem (though the ministers keep passing the lapel mike back and forth and it is tricky trying to figure out who has it sometimes :) ). However, they've got a 4 channel, ancient powered mixer and want to use more mics. I figure we can patch a modern mixer into the aux ins of the powered mixer (to avoid the preamps) and just use it that way - I think that should work without having to purchase a new amp (money is, shall we say, tight. In fact, I've volunteered to spring for the new mixer myself - so I have lots of incentive to keep costs down)

However, now I need the mixer. Obviously, the standard 1202s or whatever don't have enough preamps. I need at least 8 (we've got an immediate use for 6) plus at least two line inputs (more is better, but I'll take what I can get)

I don't need a multibus mixer, I don't need much in the way of gizmos at all, all I need is lots of preamps. In fact, we mix everything mono, so I'll probably end up just bringing out one channel into the old powered mixer....

Anyone have any suggestions? Preferably something that is a dime a dozen on ebay :)

Thanks in advance,

WAzzuppp Ole' Grove!!! Ain't seen you around these parts in a
looooooooong time!! Hope everything is fine!

BTW, what is your budget!!?? Check out the line of NADY mixers !
4-6 & 8 pre's on a budget mixer at a cheapy price!

Annnnnnnnnnnnnddddddd, STAY AWAY FROM THOSE BEHRINGER MIXERS!!!!!!!

Day job is being insane - well, I'm working 1 1/2 jobs, so that's not surprising.

Got married - I guess that qualifies as new :)

Budget is as loooooooow as I can get... I'd actually even consider Behringer - it isn't like I'm recording this to stand in the annals of history - its just a bloody sermon :)

I'm hoping to go used. I'll go check out the nadys

Mmmm. That Nady CMX16A looks pretty nice. Anyone have any experience with it?

If your budget is super-super-way low, you might want to check into some used stuff. I ended up using an ancient Shure Mic Mixer someone got at a pawn shop for a while. It had 6 XLR ins, I think, and knobs instead of faders, but it worked. I've seen them cheap (like $25) at pawn shops and used music stores -no phantom power though.

I'd like to spend about $300... I will spend up to $400, but would prefer to spend about $200 :) (USD)

I think what I want OUGHT to be available without going overboard, but...

The CMX16A looks about right, except I wish it had real mute buttons. And I really don't need all those bells and whistles

Thanks. Hmm, so it is, I guess, a used Tascam or a new CMX...

Ponder, ponder

The problem is that the smaller Behringer mixers only have 2-3 preamps, and the bigger ones are just overkill....

Doesn't anyone make a reasonably priced mic mixer?

OldGrover,

Check out this Carvin Studio Mate SM162 Mixer - It has 8 Mic pre-amps, and looks pretty decently built. I have no experience with Carvin mixers but I imagine it would work just fine for your church, and at only $239 its not bad for what you get.

Behringer does make a 8 mic-pre mixer (I believe it is the MX2004) that runs around $250 as well.

If you are looking for just the mic-pre's I know that Alesis made a mic mixer with 8 pre's in it that was pretty cheep, you may be able to find it online for a good deal. Hope this helps!

The Carvin looks good. I wish it had faders and mute buttons, but....

Hmmm. I can't believe it doesn't have mute buttons

Alot of the cheeper mixers don't have mutes.

A 2004a from Behringer would fit your needs. Its noisy for recording but its ok for live.

Alesis studio 12r has 8 mic inputs.

Most unpowered mixers are going to have extra line channels that you don't need untill you get over 12 channels.

that Behringer MX2004a mixer in the link I posted had the 8 preamps you asked for, faders, mutes, and lots more for $249......you dont have to use all of the features, as long as it gives you what you want.....just for the preamps alone, you are looking at less than $30 per preamp.....good luck finding better.....

Did I just read a post where Nady mixers were reccomended over the Behringers?!?!

Behringer may be a low priced mixer but Nady Is trash so is Phonic, Id still have a Behringer anyday.
