I just spent enough money on a pair of Yamaha NS-10Ms (I'm not interested in whether you love them or hate them) but still need an amp to power them. Can someone recommend the cheap-ish or at least reasonably priced amplifier? How much will a cheap amp vs. a really good one affect the sound of my monitors?

A cheap amp will color a bit. Hafler amps get recommended quite a bit around here. I use a Crown PB-1 (no longer made) to power my NS-10s.

The main problem you're going to have is the NS-10s themselves. It takes a bit of trial and error before your mixes will translate well to other systems. The low end response is weak, and the mids are hyped. For example, it took me quite awhile to figure out that if guitars sound too loud in the mix on the NS-10s that they were probably close to where I wanted them.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Yeah, I know about the NS-10M reputation. But I spent a week working with an awesome engineer (Bob Drake) who mixed my own album and he really sold me on em. They were really strange to my ears at first but once I got adjusted I was really amazed.

subquestion

Subquestion: what kind of bare minimum wattage do I need for the NS-10Ms?
Thanks again.
