My favorite is the lane in dual vocal combo. You can find them on ebay. Manley did a.limited production run of them recently. They go.for about 1400, if memory serves.

Awesome on vocals, acoustic guitars and bass.

Yup!

They did a limited run in blue (instead of the usual red) with different style knobs and some different style markings...right before the discontinued the DVC...actually, they discontinued the Langevin line, not just the DVC.

This is the limited edition:

I like it...ebay is the only way to go though? Never used ebay before. I'll look into it. Thanks fellas

I might be willing to sell mine. It may be time for it to go.

The Neve 8801 is breddy neat-o, if you can find one used.

For well within your price range, I like the Joemeek twinQ. Drawmer 1960 is an option also, but only has EQ on the aux input. I've done quite a bit of recording of acoustics with the twinQ, both with mics and DI, and it works quite well for that, and a bunch of other stuff.

i have the 610 i really love it . The eq is not that useful
the other choices avalon 737 not much color the limiter is not that great
its not a channel strip but the A designs Pacifica if you can pull of getting things seperate or get the 500 seris version p-1 and get a seperate compressor .

you can also check out this one I know people are loving the tone online.

I'm starting to talk myself into just saving the money for acoustic treatment.

Best thing said in the whole thread!
And buy yourself a modest Sound Level Meter then read Mr Massive's treatise on monitor calibration.

Can't recall if you have specified your monitors but money spent on those is rarely wasted.

Dave.

I have an SPL meter yeah.

The monitors I have are Mackie MR5's...I suppose they are 'ok'.

I may end up getting something 8".

But I'll definitely be spending money on bass trapping etc...getting the space to sound true

A channel strip would be nice...but it can wait. I need to buy a house first lol

I can only hack 5" drivers in combination with a properly adjusted separate subwoofer. 8" have just enough bass that I can live with it. Just me. I figure somebody could learn to mix with old stereo speakers or bad ear buds, but it isn't me. For relatively cheap, I've had good luck with M-Audio BX-8.

I have the M-Audio Bx5's...they are tiny...I got them back when I first started.

I can't see myself going the sub route so I am planning to get 8" if I think it's right.

The only other thing still in the back of my mind is some kind of analogue unit to put on the stereo bus...a compressor and eq unit or something...just to run the mixdown through.

I know there's different schools of thought on ITB vs analogue...but anyway...I'm one of those guys who lean toward the idea of giving myself the option of having something analogue on the stereo bus.
