Channel 1 blown or what?

I got everything running smoothely, but the time I was having problems with my stereo recording, I must have blown out channel one.
Is this even possible? I mean I used channel one the other day, and I thought I got a recording on it, and now I can't record anything on channel one. So I moved my inputs to channles 3 & 4 and I get stereo.
Hmmmmmmmmm, what could be wrong?
Is there anything I can do, because 3 channels is not enough, especially since I paid for 4.

Got no answer but the same problem. Track 2 (of my 488) doesn't record anymore. The playback -and erase function are still there. So now I've got only seven tracks left ! What to do ?
 
I had a friend give me a Portastudio 1! - That's the BATTERY operated 4 track. I later found it only had three tracks working, but I could use 1/2 for mixdowns. (anyone want to buy it? might make good spare parts?)
