changing volumes in a drum WAV?

How do I slightly lower the volume of a few random drum hits in a WAV? Highlight the hit, then what?
I was given this advice for making an electronic beat sound more real. Any input? Thanks!

high light in edit view, select amplitude, and choose the DB cut you want and hit ok it's that easy......don't ya love C.E.P.!!

i'm sure there are other ways, but that's what i would do.

for more accurate results, just use the compressor/limiter for the whole wave.

wouldn't that keep it at a uniform volume?

if the hits you want to compress are louder than the rest, put the threshold high enough so that you don't harm the volume of the rest.
