hey all,

when you guys go into the studio or just want to do some serious recording, would you replace the strings on your accoustic right before you go into the studio, a week before, etc.? I wasn't sure which would sound best on the recording. Any suggestions?

Thanks

You definitely want new strings on your acoustic guitar when you go to the studio, perhaps not immediately before. That's because it takes some playing before your string will stay in tune and you don't want to spend too much studio time tuning.

The day before should work. Often when I restring my acoustic I notice I need to retune it the day after, but then it keeps OK tuning. YMMV.

Idealy, change 'em about three days before you want to record to give them a chance to settle down.
By then it'll stay in tune and still be crispy.

Strecthing the strings out when you put them on will help speed the up process

I hate replacing strings that are partially worn just because I'm recording-seems like such a waste. But in teh end, having a better sound could make you millions in album sales I suppose. Keep that in mind.
