changing string gauges.

hey, i just recently purchased an epiphone g-310 sg, and it came with
.10-.46 strings. i am going to switch to ernie ball skinny top/heave bottom strings which are .10-.52. if i change to this gauge, will it break the nut? will i have to slot it?

It won't break the nut. I don't know if you will need to widen the slots, you will just have to look.

If you are using a .052 on the low E, you may have to have the slots widened (you would on one of my guitars). It will certainly need to be setup.

Yeah, all depends on the specific nut. I used those on a few of my guitars, and luckily didn't have to widen the slots (I'm pretty sure I just used those on a couple of my Ibanez's and my Clarke). If you have to widen, it's not really hard to do, but you'll probably wanna get it pro set up anyway since you're changing string gauges and all that, so I'd just go ahead and leave it up to whoever you take it to.

It is not that hard to do, but it is really, really easy to fuck up, so it is not something you want to try yourself.
