changing overall track length?

Using GT Pro, or any cakewalk program, when I mix down a song to a wav file to be put on CD, it always leaves extra dead space at the end. (ie. actual song length 2:20, but after mix down to wavfile-comes out to 3:00.) How can I cut down the track length and correct this?

I assume you mean besides opening the file in a wave editor and trimming the excess. :)

I have seen this problem as well in Sonar. Not sure of the exact cause, but I think it is associated with envelopes. Look at your tracks (and busses and Mains) to see if you have some type of envelope with a node that extends beyond the end of the song. If so, put a node at the end of the song, and then go delete the other one.

You may have to also highlight and delete the excess stuff as well afterwards.

I've managed to get rid of this, but I remember it being a bitch to fix, and I don't fully remember how I finally fixed it.

As I said in the opening, if all else fails, trim it in a wave editor.

A couple of things you can do. The first is to bring it up in a two track editor like SoundForge or whatever you're using, highlight the dead space and delete it.
The other thing is in Cakewalk just under the tool bar (it is laid out like a ruler with either time or samples displayed on it). You can click and drag an highlight how much of the multi track gets rendered to two track.
