Changing out pickup question.

I have an ES-335. I need to change the pickups but there is no access panel to the back of the pots. How do they change the pickups in these guitars?

Actually, the trick is to tie string to all the pots before you take the nuts off, then you can pull them back into their respective holes after your modifications.

I have been toying with the idea of adding a master volume to my Epiphone ES-295. I like the middle position sound and get the perfect balance dialed in between the rhythm/lead volumes. But then I don't have the ability to back off a little for the verses like I can with my stratty guitars. I noticed that the gretsch's have that master volume thing and that would be useful to me. Fishing a string through a non-existing hole should also be lots of fun.

I changed the bridge pickup in my sons Epiphone Dot. There is no control plate so you pretty much have to loosen the nut on the volume pot and let it drop into the guitar then fish it up through the F-hole. There should be enough wire. For the bridge pickup I only had to solder to the bridge pickups volume pot. I would imagine it is the same for the neck pickup. It really isn't as difficult as you might think. I think I just used a piece of bent wire to fish the pots through.

If you run into having to thread a pot into a new hole then get yourself some cloths hanger wire or any stiff wire,use needle nose pliers to make a hook,and then tie the pot to it.Had to do this a few times.

I wonder if one of those telescoping magnet things you get at the auto parts store would work? Are the shafts on the pots aluminum?

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm not sure if the pots are aluminum. I haven't even attempted anything yet. I've never take the knobs off.

I've done this a couple of times and I found it to be the easiest way to go.

I also have a medical clamp in my guitar tool bag (the kind they use as a roach clip in the hospitals) which works great.

IT's a bit tricky, but give yourself plenty of time and don't get frustrated and you'll be fine.
