changing audio to midi?

Is there a way to change an audio signal to midi in order to quantize it and put a sample in place of it, such as the audio signal of a bass drum? thanks

there are programs that will do such a thing but if your using drums why not use drum triggers

You don't really change it to midi but you can create Groove Maps by detecting the peaks in the track and useing that to trigger samples. How you go about it depends on what software you are using.

Audio to MID...

There is one program I found called Timidity. I still can't figure it out, but maybe you'll have more luck. Don't remember where I found it, but do a websearch for it.
