I got to compare a Neve 1073 and the Chamelion side by side. I thought it came pretty close to the real thing, possibly slightly more grain thus not as smooth as the 1073. But not a great difference to my ears. There was a little more low end on the 1073 too.
Overall it was very useable and at that price I was very impressed and thought one of these belonged in my rack in the near future. Unfortunately I got side steered to a Neve Portico 5012 and am having a love affair with this box currently.
The Chameleon would be high on my list otherwise.
