Solar Power!!
Yesterday I helped a neighbour add an extra 5,000 gal water tank to her property. It is built in one piece out of moulded plastic and delivered on the back of a truck. Of course I had to yell into it and what I got back was smooth, even and had an RT60 of around 2.5secs. It had a large hole in the top, which would be ideal for a speaker, and there were pipe input holes suitable for mike leads,

So why don’t we build echo chambers anymore?? Most of the cool music from the 40s and 50s had chamber verb. Is it just a question of the price of real estate??

cheers

they did here http://www.sugarhillstudios.com/ where i recorded a couple years ago. Between studio A and studio B there is an aurspace about 25 feet tall, 10 feet in width, 20 feet in length. They split it with a tall stone wall placing various microphones within the camber in different places and different speakers inside. This let them pick how long the delay was, how dark the sound was, taking two feeds and mixing them etc etc enough variations to make your ears bleed. It must have been one hell of an undertaking to build it though becuase the doorway into the open airspace was about 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall. Usually construction workers don't come in that proportion. The only difficult part was making a 20 foot tall wall in the space, everything else wouldn't need the use of a ladder.

I always wondered about taking one of those huge gasoline storage tanks that they dig up when a gas station goes out of business and using that. Or on a smaller scale a propane tank that you see outside of houses out in the country. Could be tough getting them cleaned out though.
