Okay, here we go. I just recorded this with myself and the singer to my band. Don't listen to this and say 'you screwed up on your guitar here, here, and here' or 'your singer's not in tune.' That's not what I'm looking for. I'm going to put up an mp3 that's completely raw. I taped this, did some punch ins and then put it on the computer. I'm not exactly sure where to start after that. Haha. I'm pretty new.

Keep in mind that I've done this for about two weeks, so it's amazing that I can even record on this. :)

Equipment:

Tascam 424 MKIII
Alesis M1 Actives
Vocals recorded on a SM57
Guitar recorded on a Audix OM-2 (peavey two speaker classis + epiphone les paul)
Backing vocals recorded on a SM57

Main vocals on T1 recorded on bus L
Guitar on T2 recorded on bus R
Backing Vocals on T3 recorded on direct

Help me out on what you'd do and where's the next step. Like I said, there are mess ups and there aren't even drums or a bass, but I just wanna learn how to do this and where to go from here.

There's the challenge. :)

Christopher

::EDIT:: Apparently the mp3 didn't get uploaded. Sheesh. Just click here to download it:

I think you might want to take this to the MP3 Mixing Clinic.

But it's all analog and such, I just made the mp3 so people could pick it apart.

Chris, I don't understand what the "challenge" is.
Can U elaborate!!??

Well, assuming that you never planned on adding drums or bass, and mix what you have right now.... some thoughts.....

-Recording another guitar track, and panning that one right and the other left for the sterio effect, which really thickens the guitar tone (note: if the second guitar track is slightly different tone-wise, you'll get a slightly thicker sound, so maybe mess with mic place just a hair).
-Vocals jump in and out, quiet sometimes, loud other times, even out the volumes, you may need some more compression.
-Vocals are very "dry" obviously, an effect of some sort is definitely in order. I would experiment with delays

*bites tongue on commenting on singer*
:D

Good luck!

Okay, phew.. I just read the subject title, and reallized you wanted experienced people to reply.

Then I reallized you didn't want experienced people, but 'experienced' people (single quotes indicating moderate sarcasm), so I suppose my reply shall remain. I do consider myself 'experienced', just not experienced.

I'd leave it exactly as is, although it sounds as if the clamps on the singer's testicles are starting to come loose at about 1:01 - you might consider tightening them at that point - I think the best bit, by far, happens just at 2:16... er, that's it... um, have a nice day!

Oh shit! - I've just realised that I'm not 'experienced', so feel free to ignore my suggestions...

Hey, if you're not 'experienced', you could be "experienced" or (experienced), you know.

It's Garbage!!

Chris Fallen, this sucks!! Give it up and go get that McDonalds fry cook job in the Sunday paper.

What I would do next:

Grow a mullet.

Call Iron Maiden's manager and tell him you've got some ideas for the boys.
