very nice cover...........very intricate parts that were very well done and tight performance wise............i love the drums sound.........how did you mic the kit?..........
also, production wise, it was very creative and executed very well
I take it personally when people say "you can't polish a turd"
For micing the drums we used a Nady CM-88 and MXL 603 as overheads going into the built in pre amps from a digi001. They're pretty randomly placed because I don't know the science behind overhead micing.
The rest are close miced going into a Tascam mixer for pre amps and then into the line ins of the digi. The snare is an sm57, pg52 on kick, sm58 on the floor tom, and "musicians friend special" Audio Technica dynamics on the ride toms. I gated the toms and kick during mixdown.
The good drum sound can much more be attributed to the playing than the recording technique or gear.
Wowo-quite an impresive production-nice sicko guitar sounds and playing-the first dual lead especially-What is that wierd whale noise in the second break? neat sound--like everyone else mentioned-nice drumming-it's always nice to hear a real kit around here. Almost reminds me of the mothers of invention-something off of "freak out" lol-very cool the clapping and glock break--most excellent. No critiques really-an ambitious production and enjoyable listen-very nice.
Stratomaster,
The "whale sound" is an Adrian Belew trick. You place the slide near the bridge with the guitar volume turned all the way down. You strike the strings with the slide and slide down towards the fretboard as you turn the volume up. I was really going for a bird like sound. If you just use the high E string you can get a bird chirp sound. But ravens don't chirp (I don't know what they sound like) so I used the E&B strings and let it sustain a little longer trying for a metaphorical bird sound. I guess it ended up sounding like whales.
