idiots unite!
Hi people..
just discovered this....have you guys noticed it before??
This could make things a little difficult/frustrating for a 'newby', I guess.!
I'm betting, (and I believe hearing), that the CEP version is correct?
Anyways,
Spit.:)

ps....I have in no way 'messed' with this! (hope you believe me!)....cheers.

Damn!

Well-spotted. Call out the dogs. Time to get to the bottom of this one, yeah?

You know what I'm thinking? I bet it's a mistake in the Help. I mean, the dialog box that pops up in Audition when you click on Convert Sample Type is identical to the one in Cool Edit. I bet the process in Audition is a clone of the one in Cool Edit.

yer.....their 'engines' are essentially identical (vst excepted),....guess the sexatary typing up that gaaawd awful 'new' help system (compared to cep) just foooked up.....
there are more errors like this one.
all good fun, we know better!..lol!
cheers.

I agree with you. The AA version should say "isn't enabled" not "is enabled."

Wow, it goes to show how one simple little word could change the whole meaning. I wonder if the course of history was ever affected by a typo like that.

Maybe Hitler would come back and say, "No, No, No!!! I said THRILL the people, not KILL them!" :D

yeah, that wouldn't be funny, isn't it.:)

I didn't catch it at first, checked the thread one more time and now I see it. One word makes all the difference. :D

Over at AudioMasters, another person thinks it's a typo in Audition as well. I'm convinced. I'll be checking my Audition 3.0 when it finally gets here too.

i gotta try this, i don't even know what my initial bit-rate is, i just armed the tracks and recorded accordingly......

maybe makin sure my bit-rate is at 32 before the actual mixing goes down may work out for me..... it's alot of small things i've noticed i haven't been applying to my whole working process that probably would've had me better off than the Newb i am......

best way to test for this is by doing the good old A-B test.

A= current settings,
B= all the new and small settings you have at your disposal.

Mix down to a cd and see if you can't find differences!!

Let us know how you go!

Yeah, try dithering down both ways and see if you can hear any difference. The wrong way ought to include some crackly noise, right?

Report back, y'hear? lol

yep Dobro, I would expect also to hear (albeit with some difficulty)that 'crackle' (of truncation).
But we'd really need to use some sensitive/good monitors or cans to hear it, I'm betting!! lol!...(though I have heard that noise before!...never actually heard the 'hiss/noise' that dithering might produce....I guess it would beat hearing crackling!!)
I tend to use a dither of 0.54 and a noise shaping curve of 44.1khz within the presets, when transfering to cd format..and I'm very happy with those basic settings...just fyi!!

This is a good thread...let's keep it up and hear more about what our fellow CEP/AA'ers are doing within this region of works!!
cheers,
Spit.

I've tried most of the different dithering options in AA (1.5) and don't remember hearing any differences at all. Never did any critical listening though.

Hi Danny...yeh, i suspect you wouldn't be the only one with the same thoughts!!...I guess I just stick with what I know......
I just seem to get to a stage, especially after spending heaps of time on the mix, where I just want that song onto a freakin' stereo track,,,,so i can start pulling it apart musically........I should spend more time with the dithering/bit conversion stuff....um....I guess.

loan me some headphones then my dude..... jus messin wit ya, but i think i did encounter this problem once before, but i usually dither down after i'm finished my mixdowns, i just wanted to know if i was initially recording at 32-bits before i started my mixing, i'll do a test run sometime this weekend regardless of the headphones, so i'll get back wit ya'll like sometime before monday.....

nah i have heard the hiss and crackle before, i thought that it was a cabling issue, then i realized my gold cabling wasn't the problem, then i did my EQ's and such that wasn't it either.... but i had some plug-ins that got rid of the crackling and hiss to an extent it was almost inaudible enough for me to lose concern over.......

i'll let ya'll know what's good though!
