After years of using Cool Edit Pro 1.2 successfully, this particular setup now exits instead of saving ("save as," "save copy as," save all"), EXCEPT when saving a pre-existing file which has been edited ("save"), which saves normally. It exits at the point at which "save as" (etc.) is selected from the "File" menu, before any save information is entered. I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling, even accepting all of the installation defaults, to no avail. This problem showed up after a crash during a CEP session, but a relatively recent upgrade from Windows 95 to Windows 98 Second Edition could possibly be a factor, how I do not know. I'm pretty computer savy, and I'd welcome any expert guidance in resolving the isssue.

You've done the reinstall of 1.2. Good.

I use 1.2 with Win98SE without a hitch. It's the strongest, most reliable link in my chain. They love each other; they were made for each other.

So, unless a reinstall of Win98 is in order, it must be because of some other major link in the chain, right? Soundcard? Hmmm...

Did you install Win98 clean, or did you upgrade from Win95?

It was an upgrade from Win95 to Win98SE, but I've since found the problem.
During that same period, I also added a third hard disk on an additional controller card, and that's where the conflict lay. Device Manager shows no conflict, but there is. If I disable the third disk, I can once again save in CEP 1.2. I'll try some different combinations to see if I can get it all on the same page. Ironically, I added the larger hard disk to use with audio storage and editing programs.
Thanks for your prompt reply, and from half-way around the world no less (I'm a USA poster). The kindness was very much appreciated.
