I don't know if this is the right forum for this question, but I was wondering if anyone can point me towards a tutorial to teach me how to make a CD from my old records (albums).

I don't think you might need a tutorial. All you really need to do is download a audio editing program and get some cables. First you need to hook up your record player to your PC. If your record player has headphone out just use a wire to connect this to the line i of your sound card. Then you will play it and record it using to program to a file. You will cut up the file into each track and then burn to a CD. Tell me what's your setup and I'll give you instructions that will actually help.
Something like Goldwave (http://www.goldwave.com ) will get you started with a audio editor to record into the computer. There is more elaborate software out there that has more functions but Goldwave's "demo" is full functioning with few limitations that you cannot overcome (they are more pain in the ass things...)
Next, BE AWARE!!!! DO NOT PLUG YOUR TURNTABLE DIRECTLY INTO YOUR SOUNDCARD!!!!
Records are encoded and made to run through a decoding circuit (do a search on google for RIAA Equalization and you can read up about what I am talking about). If you turntable does not run into a RIAA Equalizer, it will indeed sound VERY bad!
So, you probably have a stereo system with Phone inputs, that will have a RIAA circuit in it. Cool. You would connect the input of your soundcards to a Line Out from your stereo preamplifier to make the connection.
