I put in an empty CDRW disc to bk up a project & it says only 571 mb of free space. They are advertised as 80 minute/700 mb. Is this bec of formatting? I can't fit a 60 min stereo recording on it bec it's too large even though it's less than 700 mb. I don't get it. How many mb is 1 min of digital audio & is it always the same size regardless of how simple or complex the waveform is (ie if I mix dn 32 tracks to 1 stereo track)? What do i do? Thanks.

A related question: I want to store short audio loops I've created - does it take up the same amount of storeage space if I have them each on separate tracks or put them sequentially all on the same track? Thanks again!

RW's will hold slightly less than normal CD-R's, but if it's advertised as 700 mb you should be able to put very close to that much on there. Try reformatting the RW.

As for the mixdown size, it does not matter how many tracks you mixdown, what DOES matter is the quality at which you mixdown. If it's a wav file, it's always the same, but with mp3's and other similar formats it can be a wide range of sizes. You should be able to change this when you mixdown, depending on the program you use.

As for the different tracks for your loops, putting them all on one loop won't really do you any good (it might save you an extremely small amount of space). If you're really worried about space, either mix it down or compress the audio files.

Depends on what resolution you save the .wav as, as well.
Save it as 16/44.1 and it will be smaller than 24/44.1.
