Has anyone ever heard of a brand of CDR called HOTAN they seem to be fairly cheap but i would like to know if anyone uses them and how reliable they are
to answer your question, I've never tried that brand. I've had fairly good success with other super cheap non-brand CDRs, but if you can afford better get better, you'll have fewer coasters. Check what brand the manufacturer of your burner recomends.
Hotan is a susidiary of CMC Magnetics in Cal... I did a GOOGLE search...common fellas wake UP!! Yahoo! searches are LAME...
Anyway...back to the discs...
The reflective layer is a silver alloy which is good. The DYE (writing surface) is a cyanine type. Cyanine is the most common but I prefer the phtalocyanine found on Mitsui and Kodak...(see other CDR post)
Don't get me wrong...cyanine is fine...especially if they are cheap!! Try some...burn them on your system at different speeds and check the compatability on different players...
If they work...use em! If they give some compatability problems you'll have either some kids frisbees or some "quick burners" until you get your mix right...
The only thing I did notice was only up to 8x burn speed capability. I always burn at 1x to get the best burn so that's not an issue for me...
