Hey Folks,

Just a computer question. I think I need to replace my cdrom. Is it an easy do it yourself project?

I have installed a soundcard and a hard drive with wonderful help from the folks here but I was wondering if the cdrom replacement would be as easy.

Thanks,
Rusty K

Depending on the case, it could be completely tool-free. At the most, a Phillips screwdriver. Just make sure you check the jumpers (on the rear of the unit in most cases) and set the new unit the same as the old. Plug it all back in and you should be set.

Thanks MM,

So there are no programing/setup/Bios issues?

not unless you have a computer thats about 10 years old :).

If you installed the Hard drive you should be able to install the cd rom no problem. Just do as the previous poster said. if the old CD-Rom Jumper settings are set to slave then set the new one to slave..etc. Then plug the power and ide cable back in..the bios will autodetect it and so will your OS.

Standard CD-ROM replacement is usually very easy as most all are plug and play. Only things like CD burners may need other drivers loaded/.

Even **I** have installed a CD-ROM!

So it must be easy.

Well you've boosted my confidence. I think I'll try to tackle this one myself.

Thanks Folks
