I'm thinking of purchasing an external cd burner to use with my 414mkII.

Can anyone suggest a unit which works well at a reasonable price?

Are you talking about a stand alone CD recorder, or an external CDR for your computer ?

Does'nt Tascam make a unit or two. I think I've heard that these were good units......may be a little pricey though. Buddy of mine has a Philips, which is consumer grade but works very well, and with optical inputs.

I use a Philips burner and it does real well. I know it's consumer graded, but so for after a year, I haven't had any prob yet. I use it mostly for mix down but also for listening. I have a 424mkIII that goes to the Philips.

I have 424MKIII and i mix down to the 2 draw phillips cdr, sounds good to me. The tascams are very nice, but very pricey($500 and up)

Philips burner

I have a dual deck philips burner. It has worked good for me, but there is one thing that i don't like about it, it is hard to control the input level of the music being burnt. I had an aiwa at one time and there were knobs on the front that would let you control the input level. This is the only thing I would change on the philips model.
 
The TASCAM external burners ROCK.

My buddy just picked up the CDRW-700 for $400. It's not as pro as the CDRW-5000 (unbalanced analog I/O vs. balanced) but it sounds good and works well.
 
do the external cd burners...

now how do they work?

once you've recorded all your tracks and have them all at the right settings, you just hook up the cd burner and burn the tracks and they will sound how you want them and play on all stereos?

i'm sorry i'm very new at this stuff.
