I have a JVC external SCSI CD-RW, but wouldn't recomend it. I had to get it because I have the Roland 880, and I wanted to use it with that. It has some strange problems that come and go when I use it connected to my PC. I can only use very high quality (and expensive) media in it reliably.
small note: One thing that I've heard, and have had some success with, is burning cds at 1x or 2x, seems to make them more playable in 'less capable' cd players. Reason? Might have something to do with the media having more time to react to the laser, resulting in a cleaner burn. Maybe. Then again, that might just be a pile of crap.
