Does anyone know anything about the wav. splitting shareware called CD Wave? I need to split some vinyl wav. files I have on my SB Live! for recording to CD. I already installed it once without using it and immediately after that my CD burner blew. Thereafter, I removed CD Wave from my PC to see if the burner would work (it didn't). Since I ignored the Windows warning that the shareware wasn't certified the first time, I'm afraid to download it again, but I need to split those files. As the White Angel asked Dustin Hoffman in 'Marathon Man', "Is it safe?"

Plenty of free stuff out there.

One of the nice things about dealing with files on a computer is that they don't actually get changed if you do a Save As after messing with them.

You could download something like Goldwave and split you .wav file and not alter the original .wav file in any way, yet, get individual .wav files of the seperate songs.

Try this. Download Goldwave, open your .wav file that needs to be split up. For the first "split" you want to do, delete all the parts before and after what you want to save as a seperate .wav file, then do a Save As function. You will then be able to name the new seperate .wav file something else, and then you will have the new seperate .wav file, as well as the original unedited .wav file. You can do all the above again for the next seperate .wav file you want.

Very easy to do, and the results will be what you would expect.

As far as I know, Goldwave is about the most powerful full featured demo software available on the net, aside from trying to find some "warez" stuff. It has a limit on how many commands you can do in any one session with the application open, but if you exceed that, it allows you to save your work, then close the program, then reopen it again to continue. Very generous really!

Good luck.

Ok, thanks Sound Cracker. The reason I didn't try GoldWave in the first place is because I was told it was more complicated than CD Wave. The way you describe it, it sounds pretty simple.

Hey friend!

Ease of use doesn't usually equate to quality in application software! In fact, you may want to stay away from software that is too simple to use! You never quite know what it may be doing to your audio. ;)

Goldwave is a very simple to use editor. Yes, there will be a bit of a learning curve, but not much.

Good luck!

Yeah, that Goldwave is cooooool! It didn't take long at all to split my first wav. Thanks for the great tip SoundCracker! Now all I need is to get my burner back from Plextor. )-:
