Hey guys (and ladies), do any of you use a CD-RW 700? I am in the market to purchase a good burner for my new (yet humble) home studio. I am debating between this unit, and an HHB CDR 830 or the Sony CDR-W33. Before making a decision, thought I would seek out some users first and get some first hand info. Thank you in advance! Peace - Mitch

Yo Mitch of Music:

I saw an Alesis Masterlink on sale for 1k the other day in some ad. As the Bear would tell you, that's the one to buy.

Of the others you mention, I'd pick the Sony first but they'll all probably work fine.

Maybe you can get a demo of all of them and see which is easier to navigate?

Green Hornet :D  :D

Hey Mitch,
...sorry man, I cant give you any comparison, but i do own a cdr700 and am very happy with it. ...Very solid piece of gear!

Thanks for the info. If you know of anyone wanting to sell one, please send them my way! Thanks - Mitch

Hornet - thanks for the tip about the Alesis. Unfortunately there are no dealers around here (Grand Rapids MI) THe guitar center is the only 'real-audio' type shop we have.

I have four sons, two in college, two in high school, so my budget is limited. Is the alesis really that much better than the Sony, HHB, and Tascam? I really wnat ot get cooking, but could save a few more months to get this if it is really worth it. It appears that this gear would take the place of my Boss 532 digital recorder as well(?). Are there features with this gear that I would not use? That seems to be the case with some of the high end stuff out there. Sorry for all the questions (some of whcih show my inexperience), and thanks in advance for your help! Peace - Mitch

Guys, I got a great deal on the Tascam CD-RW-700 today at teh guitar center, so I am in business. Gotta read the manual and get it fired up. Thanks for all your input guys. Peace - Mitch

My vote is for the Alesis - very versatile, and you'll find it's overall the best value for the money. If you're only interested in burning CDs then you can get something for less $$, that will only burn CDs. Go with the Alesis - you won't regret it! I paid around 900 USD for mine, and I use it more than any of the other CD burners I have (Tascam CDRW4U, Marantz CDR300, HHB CDR-850, plus various Yamaha CD-RW drives on my computers).

Good Luck!

- Wil

PS: If you decide on the Alesis, you might consider doing the HD upgrade (see elsewhere on this BBS for details...) - it's not absolutely necessary, but I think it's well worth the effort!

PPS: Uh oh - I see I'm too late - oh well, sorry about that - I should have read the whole thing - but I stick by what I said about the Masterlink anyway... (FWIW...)
