ok ..I've got a Emu-Esi32 sampler, that according to its manual can read Akai format Cd-roms (In others words..will except this format). I also have a Pc which came with a factory installed DvD/CD-ROM player...so my question is..Is this the type of cd-rom devise the Sampler manual is referring to..because when I inserted a Emu Cd-rom disc in it(meaning in pc)), it doesnt seem to be able to read it? If this is not a cd-rom, then why does the pc manufactor referr to it as a cd-rom devise? Why dont they just refer to it as a regular Dvd/Audio cd player? This is what it seems to be..I can play standard audio cd's and Dvd's with no problem. Can someone explain?

Hello

a CDROM device simply refers to the physical way the information is put onto the disc, in this case, a spiral of microscopic pits on the cd which represent the information.

The actual information stored on a cd (or a dvd), on the otherhand, can be stored in those pits in several ways: the audio tracks that your stereo (and computer) reads, the data tracks that your computer can read files off of, and so on. Although I'm not familiar with the Akai format, it is likely a proprietory method of storing the information on a cd, different to the ones which your computer can normally read. Although the disc is still a CDROM, the information is stored differently on it.

i.e. if I write this reply in french, you can't understand me: we'd be using the same alphabet, but the letters would be arranged into words in a different way.

Hope this helps!
