CD-R Types?

Hi everyone-
I was just wanting to see the types of CD-R's we all have and your personal evaluation of how well it works for you. I was thinking maybe that we could find a quality pattern. I noticed S8N and others having problems, maybe we can help new buyers out.
Personally, I use a HP CD Writer 9100 (8X4X32) and I've only made 1 coaster, but that one was my fault. The drive has been great for me. I generally use Sony 74min (CDQ-74CN) CD-R's.
 
I've had good luck with Mitsumi Burners and Yamaha Burners.

Media:

Good - Mitsui Silver, Kodak Gold, BASF Silver, TDK Silver
Bad - Mitsuko, Verbatim
 
I have used Verbatim almost exclusively for the last couple of years, burned close to 2000 CD's with my Plextor 4/12 plexiwriter, burned only ONE coaster (in the early days), and have NEVER had a report of having one of my CD's not play in anyones CD player. That track record has kept me from changing anything in my equation.

They started out at about $2+ a pop at Sams Club back when...; now they are about 30 cents each on a 100 spindle or about 70 cents for the jewel case included. I just found a source for 15 cent jewel cases in which I just got my first order of 200, and they look fine...so spindles it'll be for me here on out. I got the paper CD sleeves too for about 8 cents each too, I believe...for those space saving friends and clients.
 
I use TDK CDR's with my 8x4x24 Yamaha burner... have burnt stuff at all speeds and have yet to burn a coaster!
 
I have an HP 7500 and have had no problems with it except for an occasional grinding sound on some discs. I would replace it but as long as it has not caused any problems...

I use TDK Certified Plus, Sony (Tayio Yuden), Memorex (Tayio Yuden), and Mitsui silver. The discs by Taiyo Yuden are all made in Japan. For Memorex there is one way to check if the discs are made by them, and that's if the center clear plastic part is frosted and some are of the Platinum series. As for the good Sony's, they are always sold on the jewel box. I'm not sure about the ones sold in the spindles.

For TDK, I make sure they are the Cretified Plus, or at least the ones made with the ISO dye.

Mitsui feels the most robust!

Although i've had no problems with Imation (CMS Corporation) I tend not to use them.

I will not touch Maxell.
 
I, too, have an HP burner in my home computer. I have used it for a couple of years with every brand of CD imaginable. Never had a problem (except with one batch of "unbranded" CD's I bought over the Internet which I couldn't write to at all).

Recently I set up a DAW using a new Dell Computer which came with a burner installed. (I'm not sure of the brand - I need to check that out.) I burned my first CD - using a Verbatim disk - with no problems whatsoever. The second one I burned however, using Memorex, will not play at all on some CD players, skips on others, but plays just fine on some. Both were burned at 2X (even though both the burner and the disks support higher write speeds). I can't figure it out, but the only variable that I can see is the brand of CD.

Before this I was pretty much convinced they were all the same - so I bought whatever was on sale. Now I'm getting cautious.
 
Any body hear of GPT? I just bought 100 of them.
I have to burn them all for a single client and the last thing I need is trouble.
