I was told there is a difference in sound quality among blank CD's. What is the best type, make and model of CD for burning my own albums and where can I get them?

Well, 1's and 0's are 1's and 0's, so in theory, it doesn't matter. What does matter is how well the CDR captures the information, and how long it will store it. Also, if the data matters to you, burn the CDR at 1x, not higher speeds.

I don't use cheapo CDRs from office supply stores or big box stores anymore... I learned the hard way that you get what you pay for.

The brand I use the most is Tiayo Yuden, with Mitsui being a close second.

They're available through lots of retail sources... Neato online has them, usually at a good price, as an example.

I agree. Because although it's true that 1's and 0's are pretty much 1's and 0's, the media and the drives are not created equal.

And some just plain suck.

Yes, you want to match the media to the drive. It is worth your time to do some searches of message boards and google to see what people are using and are happy with. After doing a lot of reading I settled on a Plextor drive and Taiyo Yuden discs. It's worked well and sounds good.

While it is 1's and 0's, don't forget about error rates, jitter, and all those little tweaky things that make a difference. So it's really not quite as simple as just 1's and 0's. Is it ever?
