CD Covers and Labels?

I just started printing (paper) with my BJC-6000 and it's quite disappointing. The first couple of prints were wavy and uneven. I tried printing an email and it came up as needing the heads aligned. I clicked on the align heads button in maintenence, but it didn't help much. I then tried it again and click on print slow but better. That got everything straight, but there was still some color splatches on a couple spots. Would changing the ink cartridges help (it doesn't say it's low)? If I use that photo ink, would the quality be better? Do you print the CDs with the photo ink?

3 things:

(A) First, try telling the maint. program to clean the heads... may clear up the splotching

(B) Is it new or did you just buy it used... if it's new return it and ask them to replace it with one that works... it's not uncommon for the ocational messed up part or product to get by Quality Control... If it's used then there's your answer... it was sold because it was screwed... "Let the buyer beware"

(C) In either case, are you using new(er) retail cartriges? Or are they either refurb/refilled... alot of people are going out and buying the refill kits to save a buck... they seem ok for the black cartriges (except for the occasional "splotch" as you mentioned) but really generally suck (in many cases) for the color ink.

Also keep in mind that ink cartriges were designed to last as long as the ink does... although they seem like solid little units, the actual spray system is very delicate and is not designed to last much longer then "X" number of prints ("X" being how many prints a full cartrige can print on average)... so if you bought it used and it came with the cartriges installed, then it's possible that the previous ownere refilled the same cart's 5-10-20 times effectively wearing out the jet portion of the cartrige which would cause the "splotching".

As for being way out of alignment... couls have happened during shipping. (in either case new/used)

I started with providing my clients with inkjet based printed cd's...they were kinda great...good printing quality and finished with spray....but when you rub them with moist fingers...the inkt eventually smears....and after a couple of months the spray tends to make the white yellow (just like your cars roof when you're a smoker)

so I made a deal with a guy who owns this professional thermal printer....In a normal month I need about 200 cd's for clients...in some months that can be around 800.....

and i wouldn't want anything else than termal printing anymore....it's awesome...printed on silver is looks like the real deal...

My CDs will be here tomorrw. I'm going to print some just for me to see how they turn out. Most bands around here only want a few made. The band I just recorded wanted 10. I talked them into 25. They want to sell the CDs for $3 or $4 and don't want to spend $5 on packaging for the CD. I told them it was going to be cheap. They said they didn't care. They actually wanted coardboard sleeves instead of jewel cases to keep the price down.

Must have had the wrong spray

I just got my CDs. I'm still trying to figure out what program I can use to print them. I got some kind of high gloss clear stuff. Is that going to work?

No, it's a combination of heat and moist....ever had those primera test disk in the mail? try holding them when it's really hot weather and your hands an sweaty......

and they spray becoming yellow is due to the fact that dirt ans dust sticks to t (unless you keep the cdr stored in it's box like you should (but who does?)
Anyway this last feature didn't happen to all the cdr's , but toa certain percentage (10%) of them I've printed (and I've printed about 1000 cd's)

Guess I've been lucky.

Nope. According to Canon, I need a new ink cartridge and little holder thing. Do those come together, or do I buy them seperate? I bought another BJC-6000. Hopefully that one prints better, so I can use it now. Then, when I get more ink and stuff, I can use both printers and print twice as fast. The second printer should be here in a week. I still don't know what software to use. I tried Nero's Cover Creator, but it only prints in the top left corner. The caddy that came with it is in the middle. If the second printer sucks, too, I will probably get an Epson Photo Stylus 900.

sorry to here that, hope the 2nd one works for you. I think I'm going to get either an Epson C84 or a Lexmark (forgot the model) both are under $100, the canon quality is fine, I just want something that's a little faster.

What I like about the Epson is the resolution is better and it's made for CDs. Hopefully I can get rid of cheap cardboard caddies.

No, I suck at this. The second printer prints a whole lot better, but I still don't know what software to use. I'm trying to send the first printer back, but the guy doesn't want to give me all the money back. I'd end up paying $50 for the broken printer. I am thinking about going with the Epson Stylus Photo 900 because of the plastic caddy, it comes with software, and there is a $50 rebate on it right now. Maybe that software would work with the BJC-6000, too.
